IND vs SA: Shaheen Afridi, who bowls left-arm speed for Pakistan, has earned a reputation for being aggressive with the new ball across all forms. In 2021, he was especially outstanding in Tests, and as a result, he was awarded the Sir Garfield Sobers trophy for the best men’s Test cricketer of the year.
During the just-finished Indian Premier League 2022 season, lightning-quick bowlers Umran Malik and Lockie Ferguson displayed some incredible speed. When the question of whether Afridi wanted to increase his speed to their level was posed to him in a press conference, the 22-year-old said that pace is useless without line and length and that he had no plans to do so.
IND vs SA: What did Shaheen Afridi say about Umran Malik?
Shaheen Afridi walked the reporters through the reasoning behind why swinging the ball is just as vital to beating batsmen as maintaining a steady speed. In addition to this, he said that he is now focusing on accelerating his pace to improve the efficiency of his line, length, and swing. What he had to say is as follows:
“Speed se kuch nahi hota (speed is of no use). I haven’t given much attention to bowling at such a high speed. In my opinion, there is no benefit to having such a pace. You won’t have an easy time getting past the batsman if you don’t have the line, length, and swing. Nevertheless, I make an effort to concentrate on improving my fitness to quicken my speed. I am hoping that I will be able to create greater pace and that both my line and my length will also improve.”
I am looking forward to having a successful cricket series versus the West Indies: Shaheen Afridi
There will be three One-Day Internationals played between Pakistan and the West Indies. Shaheen said that he and the other pacers are prepared to put in the hard yards and produce their best performance even though the temperature in Pakistan is on the warmer side.
